Chestnut Country - Central Switzerland

Chestnut trees were first mentioned in records from Schwyz in 1340 and from Weggis in 1378. Historical papers prove that chestnuts were of great importance to the area. Research shows that 120 years ago the proceeds from chestnuts were even higher than those produced from milk in Weggis.
The "Pro Kastanie" is an association whose objectives are to promote the chestnut culture at traditional locations in Central Switzerland.
